I have a shelf full of books that I have read over the past 20 years and this book is one of the BEST computer ones I have read. Jeff has done an outstanding job explaining exactly how to do everything needed to design and build an Access Web App. His approach is very thorough and he leaves nothing to chance. I wish more authors took this approach. He does a very good job explaining why there are different options and what happens when each option is chosen.

I have never read a book where the author has explained each and every way to accomplish something, I found this very helpful. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in building Access Web Apps with SharePoint One person found this helpful. Microsoft Access is undergoing a fundamental shift away from traditional desktop databases toward web development – as with most Microsoft offerings.

This book is a strong reflection of that and the author points this out quite clearly straight up, with no new features added to the desktop side of Access, realistically the bulk of the book needed to be dedicated to web app development. The previous edition of this book for the version had a bonus CD with a lot of important additional content, with this edition you have to download that content which I personally found a little disappointing. Access publishes web apps through SharePoint so you need access to a SharePoint site in order to make the most of this book.

With Jeff Conrad being a Microsoft tester, he gets the inside word on lots of areas of the program but I found the book came up short in a couple of areas, most notably around security etc.

In the end though, its is a very useful reference – if not quite complete – for building and deploying a web app from Access, the sample DB’s are very well thought out and give you plenty of hints on how things can be done. This book is primarily for the experienced user who wants to learn how to make use of the newer features of Access I still find the more basic features in in my copy of and versions.

Preface: I preordered and paid for this book months in advance without hesitation. In Access well, never mind. And prior to Access , there was only the desktop side. Screenshots, step by step examples, tips and in-depth content are presented throughout the book. A ton of sample files, both for Desktop Databases and Web Apps are available for download.

In fact, without this book, navigating your way through the design aspects of Web Apps would be a daunting task. Conclusion: Highly recommended. I heard a presentation by Jeff Conrad and decided to purchase his book to learn specifically about Access web applications and macros. Anyone else have this experience? I am a fan of the Inside-Out series. This, like the others, has a great deal of information in it. The one drawback is the complete lack of information on using Access with “normal” websites. It goes into a great deal of explanation about using Access with SharePoint, but fails to mention that the Access Services is not a feature of SharePoint Foundation, just Enterprise. I might have been better to move that information into the CD or publish another book on integration of SharePoint and Access.

Indeed, you can use Access with SharePoint Foundation in some limited manners, but that is not addressed.

Providing that information would have been useful. The reader then would have been able to continue the exercises in the book and learn a little about SharePoint integration.

As it is, if the reader does not have access to SharePoint Enterprise, they might as well skip a whole section of the book. And, I am sure, that there are a lot of web designers that would like the information as how to incorporated the web features of Access into standard.

This is covered in the version of the book for Active Server Pages and could have very well been upgraded in this version to ASPX pages. One person found this helpful. The book is very comprehensive. The information is also very clear and delves in great depth into each subject. I especially like the complete samples of various database s as well as samples and code where applicable on the companion CD. With the CD you have the ability to load all these items onto your computer and make the references available at all times.

As I get older my eyesight is not like it used to be and I have trouble reading many books and periodicals. Having the book on PDF format makes it very easy for me to read.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. I love to purchase books that are perfect reference books to help with computer programs. This book is perfect for those who are learning how to use Access. This book is long in length but that is no reason not to purchase this book. It is filled with lots of information on the ins and outs on how to use Access and I keep this book in my desk library collection daily. The table of contents are great as they lead the user directly to the subject matter section that the user may be looking for.

I recommend any Microsoft user to add this book to their reference collection! Jeff Conrad has an easy writing style and this book borrows very heavily from the version, but updated with related material.

It is probably the best Access guide on the market and the examples are well thought out and have good depth. There are extra chapters on the CD that are not in the book, and these are invaluable. Highly Recommended. My wife is taking an access class and needed an adequate supplement to her textbooks.

This book provides all of the info she needed that the textbooks didn’t provide. This book works for as well as Access combines Excel, SQL and VBA principles, maybe the only thing this book lacks is the VBA area but if you want to learn on this topic you can purchase a book that gets more profound on it. Other than that is great for any sort of user to get tips and cover knowledge gaps. Great book! I have used Access for over a dozen years. I needed something to help with details for building applications with ODBC connections to different warehouses.

This book is helpful and is a good reference. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Very complete I just need a further 4 years of my life to read it all. Report abuse.
