For one, you have to play the same region forever in order to accumulate enough gear credits to actually buy the kind of weapons needed to get through the various challenges. Unlik other Big Game Hunter games, in this version the vitals of the animals do not highlight when you take aim so you have to guess where to shoot in order to get a clean kill shot.

If you don’t get an immediate kill shot, you get penalized gear credits that took forever to earn. The wind is constantly in your back for some reason which is very annoying. Very little in ways of different weather patterns so it gets a little boring after a while. You’d think they could have worked in some rain and snow. So far, all I get is some fog in the Northeast portion. You’re confined to America for your hunting missions. That’s it.

Once you beat the 4 hunting regions, you’re done. Game over. You have to beat the Pro Hunts in order to unlock another hunting region but the catch is that they are so difficult to beat that it takes the fun out of it.

All in all, they tried to hard to make this a real hunting game Mind you, I’m reviewing the PC Download version.

I’m sure it would play a lot better and with more fun on a game console with a light gun. Oh and This game has a lot of bugs. Animals don’t always drop when hit, bullets are shown to penetrate the animal but then just miraculously glance off without a trace of blood and the “guide” keeps repeating the same lame “tips” over and over.

Sometimes, the game won’t load at all on the first try. I give it 2 stars for graphics because they did an amazing job with the landscape and overall feel but that’s about it. That’s about what it’s worth if you play it on a PC.

That’s right. STEAM strikes again. I never even got to unlock all the regions. I had a better run than most with this as it took a while for it to die but it has died at last. I’m not big on hunting games, but this game makes it more action oriented by detracting a bit from the realism so you encounter animals more frequently. I haven’t played any of the other Cabelas games, but I’ve heard this one is the best. I had a recent urge to play a hunting game and found ‘the hunter’, a ‘f2p’ hunting game but the microtransactions are god awful and ruin the experience, luckily, Cabela’s BGH exists.

Generally realistic, but with some flaws. I have no idea at with distance the scope is zeroed which made the experience hard. That is so stupid. Crashed for good after only 93 play hours. Pros: Incredible graphics, sound and very realistic animal responses and behavior. Cons: Activision tried so hard to make this hyper realistic that they dropped the ball on making it FUN!
